The Friends of Fulbourn Hospital and the Community was established in 1952,
and is a Registered Charity with a subscribing membership. We are an affiliated member of 'Attend',
the National Association of Leagues of Hospital and Community Friends.
Our President is
Peter Hilken, O.B.E.
our Honorary Vice-President is
Mrs Elisabeth Harland O.B.E.
and our Vice-Presidents are
Dr Graham Petrie, F.R.C.Psych.
and Dr Monica Shutter, M.B. B.Chir.
Our purpose is to support the care, welfare and recovery of
sufferers from mental illness, whatever their age, who are or who have been
associated with Fulbourn Hospital. We aim to increase the understanding of
mental illness and the needs and problems of patients, and their carers,
amongst people outside the Hospital.
We are run by a Management Committee, which meets quarterly and organises
the Friends' activities. There are no paid staff. A twice-yearly newsletter
is sent to members. Only about 3% of our income is spent on administration,
as all of it is accomplished
by voluntary effort, and the rest is spent directly on patient care
in the Hospital or in the Community.
The numerous activities in which the Friends are involved are detailed on the
accompanying pages.
There are many ways in which you can get involved and help the Friends.
Our work is accomplished entirely voluntarily.
We rely on people getting involved to enable us to do our work, and on voluntary donations to supplement
the money we receive from grants. Without the support of our members, donors, and volunteers, we
would not be able to continue to
meet the ever increasing demand for our services.
Thank you for your generous support!

and are very welcome. There is no application form and we take on volunteers entirely through referral and personal contact. If you
are interested in taking on some work for us, please call the Main Reception at Fulbourn Hospital, 01223 521521,
